Elements Green is one of more than 100 investors taking part in #MadeforGermany, a cross industry alliance of companies and investors that says it aims to strengthen German infrastructure, including energy infrastructure, as part of wider economic development.
Participants have committed a combined €800 billion between 2025 and 2028 towards areas including innovation, research, infrastructure and new jobs.
As part of that commitment, Elements Green plans to invest €2 billion in battery storage projects across Germany, with the aim of developing eight large scale battery systems with a combined capacity of 3.2 GW by 2028.
Why battery storage matters
Germany, like other countries with growing renewable energy capacity, faces a common challenge: electricity from wind and solar is not always generated at the moment it is needed. Solar output falls at night, and wind generation varies with weather conditions. As more renewable capacity comes online, the ability to store electricity and release it when demand is higher becomes an increasingly important part of a stable energy system.
Battery energy storage systems (BESS) are one way of addressing this. By storing electricity when it is available and releasing it when demand rises, battery storage can support a more flexible and resilient grid.
Elements Green’s projects in Germany
Among the projects in Elements Green’s pipeline are the Alfstedt and Stadorf BESS developments, each designed as a 400 MW/1.6 GWh four hour storage system. Industry coverage of the Stadorf project has described it as one of the largest battery storage projects currently in development in Germany.
Michael Zimmermann, Managing Director of Elements Green Germany, said: “We are made for Germany, because we invest today so that green energy flows tomorrow.”
Elements Green’s battery storage projects are intended to support the integration of more renewable electricity into Germany’s grid, alongside the wider goals of the Made for Germany initiative.
